How to compare odds and why it matters
Betting the same selection at the bookmaker that pays the most is the simplest way to improve your long-term results. It does not require predicting better: just choosing better where to bet.
The bookmaker margin (overround)
Bookmakers build a margin into their odds: the sum of the implied probabilities exceeds 100%. That surplus is their profit. The lower the margin, the better the odds for you.
Comparing operators lets you consistently find the lowest margin for each market.
Implied probability
To convert decimal odds into a probability: 1 divided by the odds. Odds of 2.00 imply 50%; odds of 4.00 imply 25%. Comparing the implied probability with your own estimate is the foundation of value betting.
