Parlays: how they work and when to use them
A parlay (or accumulator) combines several bets into one: the odds are multiplied and the potential payout is high, but every selection must win. Understanding the risk-reward balance is key to not overusing them.
How the payout is calculated
The odds of each selection are multiplied together. Three selections of 1.50, 2.00 and 1.80 give combined odds of 5.40 (1.50 × 2.00 × 1.80). A high payout, but all three must win.
Why the risk grows fast
Each selection adds a chance of failure. Even if each one is likely on its own, the probability of hitting them all drops with every leg you add. A single miss voids the entire parlay.
When to use them
- With small stakes, as an entertainment bet.
- When you find real value in each leg, not just to inflate the odds.
- Avoid parlays with many selections: the risk skyrockets.
